    [OPEN] Forum Caching Bug

This isn't a problem w/ the Coolite ExtJS library per se.

I'm using IE 7.0 w/ Win XP SP3. The forums seem to have a caching problem where new posts don't show up right away. I have to do a hard refresh to see if there's new posts.

Sometimes when I go into a topic I've previously visited, even though it says there's a new reply, it doesn't come up until I do a hard refresh (iow, force the browser to re-download everything and ignore any caching directives).

Just thought you might want to know...

    hmm...

I don't think I've run into the exact same forum cacheing bugs, but I have run into others.

I've been completely disappointed with this forum software and the plan for a while has been to replace with something better. Pretty much as soon as the softare was up and running I wanted to get rid of it, but you get too far down a path and it becomes impossible (at the time) to turn around.*

What's your favourite forum system/software? .net or otherwise.

YetAnotherForum.net is pretty good for .net: http://www.yetanotherforum.net/

If you're into PHP, then phpBB is very widely used: http://www.phpbb.com/

I'll help sponsor a license for any other forum based software other than this one ;)

Oh, and whatever you do keep my post count, I worked hard to be an pain in Geoffrey's back side!

    Cheers,

yes, I'm dumping this craptastic piece of forum software (InstantForum :( ) as soon as I get a chance. Maybe during the holiday break.*

I have a much better system in mind but it needs to go through more testing to ensure it will work for our requirements. Porting over all the existing forum posts and accounts may be tricky, but we'll have to figure out a way.*

    some ideas...

If two forums - have to - coexist:

at the beginning, would be sufficient having at least already created accounts active in the new forum.

In old forum people can reply but not create a new post.

A new post can be open only in the new forum.

    Could that work?
