Can I send a string with html tag to Ajaxmethod?

In coolite, is there any restriction on the parameter of Ajaxmethods? I was trying to send a parameter to Ajaxmethod from client side and
sending is successful when its a plain text, but when there is some tag inside the string parameter...its getting failed?
Why so...anyone can help me with a way out?
